MERCURE HOTELS – Writing the complete set

This isn’t a new bit of work – but I’ve just discovered it on my back-up disk and found I still like the words! Back in 2007/8 French hotel group Mercure (part of Accor) asked me and my creative partner Simon Milner to write and design the brochures, press advertising and in-house materials for the launch of Mercure’s family of 27 Uk hotels. As well as writing a DL leaflet for all 27 of them within a week, I wrote more detailed brochures in which I waxed lyrical about their flagship locations – such as St Pauls in Sheffield.

Another old piece of work unearthed from an ancient hard disk. If it looks vaguely familiar that’s because this project was the idea on which Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett based their virtual band Gorillaz. Hence the court case referred to below! CLICK ON THE THUMBNAILS TO SEE THEM FULL SIZE!

What the hell are ‘Creative Services’?

I’m a writer, musician, film-maker and music promoter. Which means I do lots and lots of different but increasingly interrelated stuff – on a day-to-day freelance basis as well as longer term contacts.

There’s copywriting across all media and marketing disciplines (SEARCH ‘COPYWRITING/CREATIVE DIRECTION TO FIND EXAMPLES) for lots of different commercial and charity/governmental clients for more than 20 years… There’s editing/proofreading of publishers’ fiction and non-fiction manuscripts…(SEARCH ‘BOOKS’ FOR EXAMPLES) There’s screenwriting and film projects (SEARCH ‘FILM’), novel and ghost writing (SEARCH ‘BOOKS’) … And finally there’s a range of live music events and festivals (SEARCH LIVE EVENTS), mostly working with young people through local authorities and youth organisations – and these involve pretty much all the other stuff I do. The posts here are just some of my more recent projects.

BOXPARK BROCHURE & PRESS RELEASE

Roger Wade, creator of Boxfresh and owner of Brands Inc and Donna Lambert (Lamb to Slaughter) asked me to write the launch brochure and trade press release for Roger’s latest retail revolution: BOXPARK – the world’s first pop-up mall!! I’m very chuffed to have taken part in this project because it’s one of the very few times that the word ‘revolution’ is used correctly and appropriately. This is exciting and radical stuff!!

Written recently by yours truly, this is a very cool website offering some of the coolest grooves on the planet (and off it) from the likes of Marden Hill, Beamish & Fly, 45 Dip, Defoe, Spacehoppa, Sugarman and many more. M-Y EBOOKS – FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR PROJECT

Jonathan Miller at M-Y Ebooks asked me to come up with a complete exhibition solution that got across their message – that it’s easy for individual authors and publishers alike to turn their literary works into published ebooks with turning pages when you work with M-Y Ebooks. I had a bit of a vested interest, since I work as an editor for M-Y. Far be it from me to plagiarise – so i’m calling this ‘an homage’!

I came up with a complete exhibition stand, A5 leaflet, a set of postcards and business cards with the straightforward theme of: SIMPLE

ACUMUS INSURANCE – total website rewrite

Acumus Insurance Home Page

Acumus Insurance, the leading social housing insurance company, asked me to rewrite their entire website and ensure that the new copy fitted comfortably within the space available in the new design without the need for visitors to scroll down. Quite tricky to be that concise with such a complex subject with lots of detail to cover!

MERCURE HOTELS – BROCHURES & ADS

In 2007, Rockfish Design Consultancy asked me to handle all the copywriting for the Mercure Hotels account. That meant writing brochures for all 27 UK hotels, plus weddings and conferencing-specific brochures and a ‘catalogue’ of ‘off-the-peg’ local press promotional ads.

FS TRADING – Spread betting website copy

FS Trading asked me to re-write their website and make this complex subject simple and appealing to the uninitiated. So I kicked out as much jargon as humanly possible from the introductory bits to make the whole thing accessible and easily assimilated.
