Treetops B&B – Low budget website

A local B&B host asked me to create a cheap and cheerful website for his Victorian B&B in Hertford, together with a leaflet and press ads. I wrote this site and built it myself using photos we took between us. Not exactly cutting edge – but I’m including it as an example of what you can do even with a very low budget!

Featuring Kev Saunders on vocals, Los Ladrones de Amor (The Thieves of Love) are raw, mostly acoustic and angry… Melodic and lyrical songs full of sleaze and soul with a heart of darkness mixing latin grooves and the spirit of punk in songs such as:

TAKASHI O'HASHI'S LATEST ALBUM featuring KEVIN SAUNDERS

TAKASHI O'HASHI'S LATEST ALBUM featuring KEVIN SAUNDERS

More than 20 years ago I answered an ad in Melody Maker for a UK rock singer and fired off some of my songs. Invited to ‘audition’ by writing lyrics and singing to some backing tracks created by the main man TAKASHI O’HASHI (formerly of Japanese metal legends SEIKIMA  and USA sleaze-rockers CATS IN BOOTS), I got the gig and soon found myself in New York City. Recording at various studios, including the legendary Power Station owned by Barry Bon Jovi, I was working with guitar hero Takashi ‘Jam’ O’Hashi, drummer Milt Sutton and bassist Hal Cragin, who went on to join Iggy Pop’s band and co-write Iggy’s American Caesar

LEE JEANS’ Brussels asked me to write press launch material for the launch of each season’s collection. Quite tricky writing several pages about the subtle differences between one designer jeans collection and the next!

Here’s an example!

Co-written and sung by yours truly, HIJACK was the US single from MARDEN HILL’s album BLOWN AWAY (titled HIJACKED in the US). It’s been featured on loads of movies and TV shows, including GHOST WHISPERER (Jennifer Love-Hewitt), HALLOWEEN  RESURRECTION (Jamie Lee Curtis), PLAYING GOD (David Duchovny), CRITICAL ASSEMBLY, FLYPAPER (Lucy Liu & Sadie Frost), TRIGGERMAN and AMERICAN – THE BILL HICKS STORY.

Here’s an old video for the track created by my creative partner Simon Milner for SAUNDERS MILNER LTD from original footage by MARK DANIELS & MATT LIPSEY:

Directed by Mark Daniels (from legendary Acid Jazz/Trip Hop band Marden Hill – which sometimes features yours truly) and Matt Lipsey (BAFTA award-winning director of Little Britain, and British Comedy Award winner for Psychoville among lots of other stuff such as Armstrong & Miller), this video for my song MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS was shot in ‘87 on a budget of £100. Not bad considering this was long before we could do this stuff on a camcorder and a Mac! Featuring me failing to look like a boxer! CLICK THE TITLE TO VIEW:

UNITY - a celebration of Black History MonthHerts County Council Youth Connexions asked me and my partner in crime, youth work author and guru Vanessa Rogers (www.vanessarogers.co.uk) to help them put together a major launch event for Hertfordshire’s biggest art project – a celebration of Black History Month. The result was UNITY, an outdoor free concert at Hertford Castle for more than 500 young people aged up to nineteen. Featuring ten live acts in four hours UNITY was performed by young people for young people – and all the music, regardless of the performers’ colour, was influenced to a greater or lesser degree by the rich seam of black music that’s never far from the surface in any pop music genre. That includes reggae, ska, funk, hip hop, rock, soul and jazz! Artists included AHEAD OF TIME CREW (Hip Hop), ZION & THE WHITE BOYS (Reggae), Stanza and The Movement (Hip Hop) and, as they say, many many more.

Who Says Teenagers are all Little Horrors?

Not Hertford Extended Services Partnership!

Getting tired of hearing horror stories about Nightmares on Fore Street; of young people up to no good around the town? Well so are Helen Grout, Hertford Police School Liaison Officer and Michelle Martin, Extended Schools Co-ordinator with the Hertford Extended Services Partnership, so they’ve teamed up with Kev Saunders and the local schools to do something positive by and for local young people.

Marquee Allstars at Rock at the Castle 2007

Rock at the Castle – 2005 – 2009

I organise all the music, press, programme, technical operations and stage management for this annual one-day charity rock festival alongside Hertford Town Council. From a few hundred people when I helped to instigate the event in 2005, the audience has grown to 7000 people this summer (2009).

On the main stage we have 10 – 12 bands of all styles from reggae and rap to punk, funk and metal and in between acts the INSOMNIA MUSIC LIVE stage presents acoustic acts. All this for a suggested donation of just £2!

Check out this year’s press release and line-up!
